WHEN AND HOW JAMES HADLEY CHASE HAVE CONQURED RUSSIA, BELARUS AND TAJIKISTAN (AND WHAT HAPPENED AFTER IT).

Rather unusual front and back covers with photographs by Belorusian(?) photographer and book designer S. Balenok. Both covers remind European photographic covers for crime novels and thrillers of early 1930s.
The designer did not make it intentionally. The entire pictorial industry in Belarus and Tajikistan was still under strickt control of local censors from the Soviet past. Rules were rigid. When compared with covers designed by Tallinn or Riga, and even Moscow deisgners of early 199os one can see a striking difference.
Covers for this edition of Chase´s novels remind covers of Russian trash literature printed in Riga of 1920s and 1930s and distributed worldwide.

200 000 copies were printed in Minsk by Communist Party owned 'Belorusskii Dom pechati' for distribution in Tajikistan and other Central Asian Republics.
A very rare provincial edition of British cult author.
