Decorative front cover. Book designed by D. B. Shimilis. The book was printed in 3 000 000 copies with 'Books for Pulp Project'. Most of the copies were not available in the open. Part of the run was distributed to the USSR library system directly by library jobbers .The larger part of the run was exchanged for antiquarian books, manuscripts and, in some cases, for stolen archival documents and/ older foreign books stolen or discharged from state libraries and institutions. The project was considered as 'barbaric' by a number of prominent Soviet book historians in perestroika days. Most of the copies were read into pulp by the end of 1990s. One page appeal to readers with the detailed description of the project 'Books for Pulp' printed on unnumbered page.
