Ivan Novikov (1877-1959) was a novelist and poet who began publishing in 1899 and maintained close ties to modernist writers in Moscow. In 1921-23 he lived in Berlin; after returning to the Soviet Union, he continued to publish without interference from the state. With an attractive cover design by Leonid Golubev-Bagrianorodnyi (1890-1934), a relatively unknown ‚émigré‚ artist who propagated the work of the Futurists in the Russian provinces in the mid-1910s. After the Revolution, he moved abroad and participated in numerous art exhibitions in addition to working for émigré publishers in Berlin. Savine 02364 |
