The book was printed earlier in the USSR under the title 'U poslednei cherty' in abridged and cencored format . The only Pikul´ book reissued in pirated edition by Alex Flegon(t) Press (London) in late 1970s.

The book was distributed via Soviet backed outlet in Paris 'Les Livres Etranger/Dom knigi' and smuggled back to the USSR by Soviet diplomats, Soviet émigré smugglers of Russian books and black caviar and seamen in 1980s via Poland.

This edition differs from other editions and has a valuable author´s preface on novel´s literary and publishing history, and problems with GORLIT in Brezhnev´s USSR. The author also mentions the role of Leonid Brezhnev´s and Mikhail Suslov´s wives as uninvited censors of this novel.
