This is the first and still the best monograph on step dance in Russia and the USSR. Valuable footnotes. Step dance [and tap dance] appeared in Russia in 1908. Russian term 'chechetka' [tap dance]was coined a few years later. The dance was very popular in Russia and the USSR from 1908 till late 1920s. It was banned periodically for public performance and in all cabarets and theatres starting early 1930s. Fully rehabilited in late 1930s through war years and banned again in late 1940s to be rehabileted again by late 1950s.
