Prolific Soviet poet, literary critic and writer. Born in Genève.Returned to Russia with his parents.Graduated from Leningrad University in 1925.His first poetry collection, Schastlivye gody, was published in 1926. Member of 'LAPP' group and later of 'Smena' group. In his life time was known as a cynic and a great drunk to his contemporaries. He was also known for his art of making right connections for larger runs of all his books. Built up one of the best private libraries in the USSR.

His poem 'Kartonazhnaia Amerika' was not mentioned for various reasons in number of major Soviet reference works and monographs on Soviet literature. Poem was never reissued in a separate edition.
