Valuable essay by Vladimir Adariukov on Il´a Alekseevich Sokolov ( born 1890 ).Sokolov started his artistic career as icon-painter at G. D. Pochetnyi Studio of icon-painting. Stayed with master for six years (instead of traditional five years).Later studied at A.P.Bol´shakov private Studio.Drafted in 1914.Studied print making and art of color engaving with Emil Lane while in military service.Spent some years as POW in Germany.In POW camp was allowed to work as an artist and became very prolific during that period.Returned to Moscow in 1919 and joined Proletkult movement.Left Proletkult in 1922 and later joined AKhR.Took part in famous 'Mir iskusstva' exhibition (1921).
