Otto Schmeil was a prominent German botanist. His books are still (2012, sic!) read and treasured by specialists and gardeners worldwide.
This book was printed by 'Russkaia kniga' Aktsionernoe Obshchestvo, located in Berlin at Friedrichstraße 79A (sic!)´. Larger part of 'Russkaia kniga' publications went to Russia and only limited number of books produced by corporation remained in Europe and America.

The corporation 'Russkaia kniga' was headed by Gosizdat´s backed Soviet hacks and Große Intrigante. Greater number of officials in this Corporation were not book people at all but ' just a nice bunch of merry corrupted crooks´, Lenin´s 'Red Merchants'. All of them enjoyed comfortable life at Soviet trade missions abroad and at ´flight by night´ corporations, joint ventures created by Western Communist parties far away from revolutionary Moscow. Most of them went back to Soviet Russia and perished during numerous Stalin´s purges.

On Soviets abroad in 1920´s see: Novyi Istoricheskii Viestnik. M., 2003, No.1 (9); Heywood, Anthony, 'Engineer of Revolutionary Russia: Iurii V. Lomonosov (1876-1952) and the Railways'. (2011)
